Student Visas

There are many great studying opportunities in New Zealand at school, Technical Institute or university level. With an education system that is well respected many people send their children to NZ to study and some can use it as a pathway to residence.

New Zealand has some of the highest ranked Universities in the world. Study however can extend to many fields other than degrees (or higher) but only a few might in and of themselves lead to a pathway to residence.

To qualify for a student visa in NZ, you’ll need to be accepted into a course of study whether that is primary school, secondary/high school or at ‘tertiary’ level, have the funds for accommodation and living expenses and generally pass a health examination as you’ll likely be eligible for fully funded public healthcare whilst in New Zealand. Younger students will be expected to have a parent accompany them on a guardian visa.

Partner Visas

Relationships are important for happiness and wellbeing. Sometimes people meet their partners abroad, and so living together may prove difficult due to length of stay regulations dictated by immigration policy.

Borders shouldn’t limit the ability of people to spend time with their partners. That’s why New Zealand offers a range of different partner visa options to help NZ citizens bring their partners into the country.

Many of these relationship visas require evidence of living together. Visa conditions are carefully written not to obstruct unmarried partners living in de facto relationships from obtaining visas.

Parent Visas

New Zealand offers a number of different parent visas that allow parents to join their families in NZ. Both are based on having at least one adult child living in NZ as a resident visa holder (or citizen). One requires a net worth or NZ$1.5m and an investment in NZ for four years of NZ$1m. The other is simply based on having at least one adult child resident here (this policy has been ‘temporarily closed’ since 2017….).

Work Visas

NZ welcomes skilled workers and migrants that contribute to New Zealand’s economy. There are a number of ways skilled migrants can enter and be permitted to work in New Zealand. This usually requires a type of work visa. Australia is the only country whose citizens don’t require a work visa to work in NZ.

Citizenship Applications

New Zealand Citizenship is a special status that grants a number of rights and entitlements. In the case of immigrants, it can be granted after resident visa holders have lived in New Zealand for at least 5 years, and have applied and been successful in their New Zealand Citizenship application.
