476 Visa – Skilled Recognised Graduate Visa
What is the Australian 476 visa?
The 476 visa allows recent engineering graduates to live, work or study in Australia for up to 18 months. The applicant needs to complete a degree or higher qualification from an eligible university within the past 2 years.
Subclass 476 visa requirements
- You must be under 31 years of age.
- You must not have previously been the primary holder of a Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) visa or a 476 visa, unless you held one such visa as the member of the family unit (the secondary applicant). You cannot extend or renew your 476 visa.
- At the time of application, you must have competed a degree or higher qualification in the last 2 years. It could be a:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Master’s degree
- Doctoral degree
- Postgraduate diploma.
Your engineering qualification needs to be accredited under the Washington Accord: https://www.ieagreements.org/accords/washington
This qualification must be in an engineering field, such as:
- civil engineering
- structural engineering
- chemical engineering
- environmental engineering
- electrical and electronics engineering
- mechanical, production and plant engineering
- mining and material engineering.

476 visa English language requirements
You must provide evidence of English proficiency unless you hold a valid passport from the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Canada, New Zealand or the Republic of Ireland.
To do this show us evidence in the last 3 years you achieved:
IELTS: Overall score of at least 6 with a minimum score of 5 for each of the 4 parts
TOEFL iBT: Total score of at least 64 with a minimum score of 4 for listening, 4 for reading, 14 for writing and 14 for speaking
PTE Academic: Overall score of at least 50 with a minimum score of 36 for each of the 4 parts
OET: At least B for each of the 4 parts
Cambridge C1 Advanced test: Overall at least 169 with a minimum score of at least 154 in each of the 4 test components.
476 visa costs and fees
The visa application fee is AUD 425 for the main applicant. There is also a DHA fee payable for each family member who applies for the 476 visa with you.
You might also have to pay other costs for health assessment, police certificates and biometrics.
Processing times could vary. Your application can take longer to process if you do not fill in your application correctly or include all the required documents or information from you.
You can include your family members if they are the members of your family unit. It can be your spouse/partner and your children. Your family members can also join you 476 visa later (subsequent entrant) after the grant of your own 476 visa.
You can travel to and from Australia as many times as you wish during the validity period of this visa. The time you spend outside Australia cannot be counted towards the extension of your 476 visa.
